TRIBUTE 2019 – KRISTEN STEWART

Kristen Stewart is one of the most accomplished, talented and in-demand young actresses in Hollywood. In 2015, she became the first American actress to be awarded a Cesar Award in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Olivier Assayas’ Clouds of Sils Maria, in which she starred alongside Juliette Binoche. She received several other accolades for her performance in this film including the Best Supporting Actress prize awarded by the National Society of Film Critics, the New York Film Critics Circle et the Boston Society of Film Critics. In 2017, Stewart made her directorial debut with the short film Come Swim which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival that year.

Stewart was introduced to worldwide audiences in 2002 with her gripping performance alongside Jodie Foster in David Fincher’s Panic Room. Her star took a huge rise when she starred as Bella Swan in the hit franchise The Twilight Saga, opposite Robert Pattinson. The series has grossed over $3.3 billion in worldwide receipts and consists of five motion pictures. She also starred in Universal’s box office winner Snow White and The Huntsman directed by Rupert Sanders (2012); and in Walter Salles’ screen adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road, which premiered at the 2012 Festival de Cannes.

Sienna Miller was born in New York, educated in England and studied drama at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York. Her film debut came opposite Daniel Craig in Matthew Vaughn’s Layer Cake in 2004. From there she excelled in movies including Lasse Hallström’s Casanova (2005), George Hickenlooper’s Factory Girl (2006), Steve Buscemi’s Interview (2007), John Maybury’s The Edge of Love (2008), and Stephen Sommers’ G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra (2009).

In 2008, she has received several accolades for her work in film including a nomination for a Film Independent Spirit Award for her role as ‘Katya’ opposite Steve Buscemi in Interview, a British Independent Film Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Edge of Love, and a nomination for the BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award. In 2013 she was nominated for both a TV BAFTA and a Golden Globe in the Best Actress in a Mini-Series or TV movie category for her role in HBO’s The Girl where she played Alfred Hitchcock’s muse Tippi Hedren under the direction of Julian Jarrold.

In 2015, Sienna starred with Steve Carell and Channing Tatum in Bennett Miller’s movie, Foxcatcher, which was presented in competition at the Festival de Cannes and nominated in five different categories at the Academy Awards. In the same year, she also starred opposite Bradley Cooper in the critical and commercial hit American Sniper, directed by Clint Eastwood. The movie earned itself a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards that year and broke box office records in the US.

Academy Award winner Geena Davis, one of Hollywood’s most respected actors, appearing in several roles that became cultural landmarks, is recognized for her tireless advocacy of gender equality in media nearly as much as for her acting accomplishments.

After holding honorary degrees from Boston University, Bates College and New England College, Davis received the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 1989 for her role as the offbeat dog trainer Muriel Pritchett in Lawrence Kasdan’s The Accidental Tourist. She was nominated three years later for an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Actress for her performance as Thelma in Ridley Scott’s Thelma & Louise in which she co-starred with Susan Sarandon. Davis went to receive a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in 1993 for her portrayal of baseball phenomenon Dottie Hinson in Penny Marshall’s A League of Their Own.

Other credits include iconic films such as Sydney Pollack’s Tootsie (1982), her feature film debut starring opposite Dustin Hoffman, David Cronenberg’s The Fly (1986), Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice (1988), Renny Harlin’s The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996), and Rob Minkoff’ Stuart Little (1999).

Johnny Depp is an award-winning and one of the most popular actor around the globe who is also producing projects under the banner of his company, Infinitum Nihil.

A three-time Academy Award nominee in the category of Best Actor, Depp was honored with his first Oscar nod for his work in Gore Verbinski’s 2003 blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which launched the hugely successful film franchise. He also won a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award and an Empire Award and garnered Golden Globe and BAFTA Award nominations for his creation of Captain Jack Sparrow, who became an instant screen classic. Depp went on to reprise the role in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, earning another Golden Globe nomination; Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, both films directed by Gore Verbinski, and Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. He recently starred in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg.

Depp began his performing career as a musician, before segueing to acting. He made his feature film debut in the horror hit A Nightmare on Elm Street directed by Wes Craven in 1984, followed by Oliver Stone’s Oscar-winning war drama Platoon. In 1987, he landed his breakout role on the hit television show 21 Jump Street.

HOLLYWOOD RISING-STAR 2019 – SOPHIE TURNER

Having trained from a very early age at the Playbox Theatre Company, Sophie Turner’s breakthrough role was as ‘Sansa Stark’, the eldest daughter of House Stark in the hugely successful Golden Globe, SAG and EMMY award winning series Game of Thrones based on the books by George R.R. Martin. She most recently starred in the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, which aired on HBO in April.

This summer Sophie reprised her role as Jean Grey in Simon Kinberg’s Dark Phoenix alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy. Sophie made her feature film debut in 2013, in the lead role of Another Me from Fox International, directed by Isabel Coixet. For television, she was seen in the BBC2, The Thirteenth Tale, a chilling ghost story directed by James Kent that examines family tragedy, Sophie played Adeline March opposite Vanessa Redgrave, Olivia Colman and Robert Pugh.

The most powerful character of the X-Men, her powers include telepathy, telekinesis and mind control. PIERCE BROSNAN

TRIBUTE TO PIERCE BROSNAN

Pierce Brosnan is an actor, film producer, environmentalist, philanthropist, artist and two-time Golden Globe Award nominee known for his rich and extensive career in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes as a producer. He is also a regular guest of the Deauville American Film Festival, visiting for the fourth time this year.

Born in County Meath, in Ireland, he moved to London at age 11. At 20, he enrolled in The Oval House and continued his studies at The Drama Center in London. After graduation, he performed in several West End stage productions including Franco Zeffirelli’s Fulimena and Tennessee Williams’ The Red Devil Battery Sign at the York Theater Royal. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1982 and immediately landed the role of private investigator Remington Steele on the popular NBC television series of the same name.

In the 1990s, Brosnan reinvigorated the popularity of the Bond legacy in box-office blockbusters GoldEneye by Martin Campbell (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies by Roger Spottiswoode (1997), The World Is Not Enough by Michael Apted (1999) and Die Another Day by Lee Tamahori (2002). Brosnan’s first three Bond films earned over a billion dollars at the international box-office and the fourth opus alone garnered almost a half-billion dollars worldwide.
